Art Appreciation with a Social Twist
As someone who appreciates art, it is hard not to get excited about a city who's downtown streets crowd several times a year with folks moving from gallery to gallery taking in everything from oil painting to photography to glass blowing. An Art Walk, held the first Friday of each month, is an excellent way to take in the French Quarter and appreciate artwork in a social setting. Galleries in the Charleston downtown historic district will open their doors for extended hours and greet guests with hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and recent work.
First Friday Art Walk Dates and Time
Art Walks are typically held the first Friday of the month from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
* Please note that the Charleston Gallery Association does not sponsor official First Friday Art Walks in January or July. However, select galleries still have their evening receptions. Please check with individual galleries regarding their plans in January and July.
Participating Charleston Art Galleries
A wide array of mediums and styles are represented in the French Quarter Art Galleries. For a list of participating galleries, click here. Participating galleries have maps of the French Quarter galleries to help guide guests once they arrive. Visitors may start in any gallery they please and visit as few or as many as they like. If folks can't make it out for one of the walks, the galleries are well worth visiting during their regular operating hours also.
Please stay tuned and check with the Charleston Gallery Association for updates.
