The Avett Brothers, Stop Light Observations, Atlas Road Crew- Fine First Flush Festival Standouts

You know you’re famous when a massive crowd of 14-year-old girls comes screaming through an open gate at you. At least that’s what bassist Coleman Sawyer felt when Stoplight Observations played at Brittlebank Park for Spring Jam this year. But the group of middle-and-high-school-friends-turned-band-members played on their biggest stage yet May 24th at the Charleston Tea Plantation’s annual First Flush Festival, right before the Avett Brothers headlined.

Exploring the Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition

It’s that time of year again in Charleston. School is out. The beach chairs have been dusted off. The weather is warm, and it’s officially the beginning of summer. Best of all, the beginning of summer brings Spoleto and Piccolo Spoleto, the well-known festivals that have become such an integral piece of Charleston’s rich artistic and cultural backdrop. But with over 35 different acts and performances for Spoleto Festival USA, and countless events for the local Piccolo Spoleto Festival, where does one begin? I took some time this week to explore one of Traveling Ink’s favorite Piccolo Spoleto events, the Outdoor Art Exhibition in Marion Square.

Preserve Historic Carriage Tours in Charleston, SC

Since I was a young girl, the carriage horses were one of my favorite parts of Charleston. Hearing the clop, clop, clop of the hooves and looking up to see a beautiful carriage pass by really set the historical scene that Charleston is so fondly known for. In a city as perfectly preserved as Charleston, horse-drawn carriages seem such a natural and perfect fit.

Camp Happy Days 5th Annual Bed Race

This past weekend, Camp Happy Days took over a section of Hampton Park in downtown Charleston for one of the more unique fundraisers you'll encounter, the Charleston Bed Race. In its fifth year, the Bed Race boasted a jump castle, a giant stingray, a beer garden, delicious eats from Cilantro's Rolling Gourmet and Kickin' Chicken, the always refreshing Italian Ice and King of Pops popsicles, and jams from Mix 96 radio station...and that's not even the REAL reason we came out. The highlight of the day was of course the homemade "beds" teams created to race head to head for the Charleston Bed Race trophy and to help raise money for kids kickin' cancer in South Carolina.

Bald Head Island...Do We Really Have to Leave?

If you've ever seen the movie Weekend at Bernies, a film about two guys who get invited to their boss's beautiful beach house for the weekend, you've seen Bald Head Island. Portions of the movie were filmed there. Aside from the strange plot twist the guys encounter along the way, the island is quite lovely. You could easily see why the boys wouldn't want to leave. After visiting Bald Head Island in North Carolina for myself, I can commiserate with them. We didn't want to leave either.

Client Testimonials

  • A Charleston resident suggested a Traveling Ink concierge might be able to help me. It didn’t take long for me to realize that this was one of the best pieces of advice I could have received. My friends thought I was an organizational wizard even though I kept telling them it was Traveling Ink, not me.

  • We so enjoyed our time in Charleston. Thank you for all your insight! I am recommending your services to everyone I know who is traveling to Charleston!

  • Traveling Ink planned the three full days we would have in Charleston, how we would get from one place to another, places to eat, and what the costs would be. To add to the challenge, we had to change the day of one of the main attractions because rain had been predicted. They handled all the changes with out missing a step.

    ~ Harriett H.
  • These Charleston pros do a phenomenal job in any setting. Audra was our point person and is a pleasure to work with. She is laid back and can work with any request.
